Thrift-e
The local & sustainable clothing app
-
We were assigned to groups and asked to collaborate on a service that could help address the sustainability issues affecting the planet. The questions which we were asked were:
How can designers respond to a call of such overwhelming urgency?
How do we employ our design skills, choose projects with the most impact and bring an environmental lens to all of our work?
How might we help customers find ethical alternatives to their favourite products?
-
This was a group project in which I completed the following:
Assisted in desk-based research
Assisted in first-hand research - interviewed with a local designer and helped create the online survey
Group ideation
Persona creation
Empathy mapping
User journey mapping
Lead in branding and illustration
Mock ups
Assisted in wireframing
Assisted in the presentation
-
Discover - We conducted desk-based research, looking at what global warming is and exploring existing services. We then conducted an online public survey and interviews with local designers and businesses.
Define - Based on the research we created personas, user journey maps, empathy maps, and storyboards for both users (the buyer and the seller).
Develop - We completed individual brainstorming and then group idea generation sessions to come up with ideas on how to solve the problems surrounding fast fashion. We created a storyboard, wireframes and the final prototype on Figma. I took the lead on branding.
Deliver - We created a final prototype and mock-ups of the service. We then presented all of our work to the class.

Our final idea was to develop an app that allows users to purchase sustainable fashion items through a subscription box. We aimed to tap into the growing popularity of secondhand shopping by helping people discover unique fashion pieces that they won't find in traditional retail stores, as well as older items that might otherwise end up in landfills—offering users a fun and unique experience where they can purchase a bespoke clothing package tailored specifically to them through AI.
We wanted to encourage users to make sustainable shopping choices and provide them with tips on how to make small changes that will ultimately benefit the environment.
