How they can help me?

A comic made by young people for young people

  • This was a great project where I got the chance to work with two amazing members of Cancer Fund for Children’s Youth Engagement Group to illustrate a comic book.

The brief was to work with young people to make a resource on how the charity helps in a way they can understand.

  • This was a project in which I worked with members of the Youth Engagement Group. I completed the following:

    • Research

    • Planning

    • Illustration

    • Editing

    1. Sketching - I was given the script from the two boys and brief descriptions to how they imagined different scenes and characters to look.

    2. Storyboard - I created a storyboard to help figure out what would be happening in each frame and to ensure it had a nice flow. I wanted to keep it interesting for the reader.

    3. Illustration - I drew and coloured each illustration in a fun, comic book style.

    4. Editing - From feedback, I fixed any text or other mistakes.

    5. Print - The comic was sent to print to be used as a resource for young people affected by cancer.

  • The feedback from the comic book has been great. The two boys who I worked with to create the comic loved it.

“It’s like Bethany climbed inside our hearts and just drew what we thought!”

The comic book got a whole launch party where the boys got to present their work. They are being distributed among the young people the charity supports and in schools. There are plans for a second instalment.
